2019 School Satisfaction Surveys
Next week a random selection of families will receive information about the 2019 School Satisfaction Survey. The survey will be open between Monday 19 August to Friday 13 September and can be completed online or on paper (paper copies can be returned to the school office).
This annual survey collects information from parents and staff to assist schools to plan for improvement and to inform decision-making at the departmental level. If you do receive a survey it would be fantastic if you could take the time to complete it as we appreciate your voice and take your feedback seriously. It is also a great way to let us know what we are doing well so we can continue doing that. In the end, we all want our school to be the best place it can and to give our children quality experiences.
Students Playing in School Grounds After School
It is always lovely looking out my window after school and seeing groups of children coming back to play in our grounds, it definitely highlights our wonderful community spirit. As much as we are happy for this to continue, can you please speak to your children about respect for our landscape. We have a number of children coming back and building cubbies in the wetlands. This is a fun thing to do but unfortunately they are breaking or damaging our trees in the process. Our wetlands area is a unique environment and classes utilise it during the week for investigations and inquiry play so we would very much like to see it cared for and respected. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
Primary Kaleidoscope Exhibition
Each year the Burnie Regional Art Gallery collaborates with local primary schools to present artworks developed around a theme. This year the theme is Machines.
Two of our classes, 1A and 3/4A have had a great time making their entries to be displayed at the gallery between Monday, 19 August to Thursday, 19 September.
I was fortunate to observe the Grade 1s engaged in getting their machine built. Below are just a few of their great creations.
Students in Grades 3-6 will participate in the Swimming Program from Monday 19 August until Friday 30 August. This year is the first year Somerset Primary has implemented all grades attending swimming. We believe, living on an island and our town so close to the river and sea, that it’s important for all our students to learn to swim. The Department Of Education has qualified swim instructors that cater for all levels of ability.
Please remember to pack:
- bathers
- towel
- swimming cap
- a little extra snack as swimming makes you hungry
- goggles - but be prepared the swim teacher may ask you to take them off for some activities
There are 5 timeslots each day and parents should have already recieved advise in writing as to the bus and pool times for their child.
Please also see the attached canteen timetable for the swimming period.

Fathers Day Stall 29 & 30 August
With fathers day fast approaching, Parent group are prepairing for the annual Fathers day fundraiser. We are seeking donations of crafted and baked items or anything you think our Dad's and Grandad's will enjoy for our stall.
This is one of our schools major fundraisers so any contributions are greatly appreciated.
