Professional learning Day
On Friday 1st November staff were involved in a Professional Learning Day. The focus for the day was on student and staff wellbeing. In the morning block each Pod shared highlights and growths for the year. It was a very uplifting to hear teachers’ passion for their students and the opportunities they provide. There were some common threads across the Pods in relation to: creating a climate of belonging; engaging inquiry based learning; providing opportunities for visual arts; and experiences that enable students to enact our values in authentic ways.
In the middle block we unpacked the Grade 4 to 6 Student Wellbeing Survey Data. Overall our students’ responses were very positive compared to the rest of the state. In all indicators our students showed higher levels of wellbeing. We will use this data to inform our student wellbeing priority in our 2020 School Improvement Plan.

If you are interested in looking at the full data set, we will be discussing it at our next School Association meeting on the 26th November.
In the afternoon our focus changed to staff wellbeing and strategies we can put in place to improve our wellbeing and as a result our effectiveness.
Mural
If you have entered our school towards the LIL room you would have noticed our new mural. The mural was inspired around our Bullying No Way and Harmony Day book, Only One You. The book’s main message is: There’s only one you in this great big world so make it a better place.
All students from Kinder to Grade 6 designed and painted their own unique fish onto the mural.
We are so happy with how it turned out. If you have the time, please go and have a look.
Basketball Tournament
On the weekend of the 26 October, a number of our students competed in the NW School’s Basketball Tournament. Once again all students enacted our values and did Somerset Primary proud.
Our 3/4 Boy’s Team won division 3.
Our 3/4 Girl’s Team were runners up in division 2.
Our 5/6 Boy’s Team came third in division 1 and qualified for the State Finals.
A big thank you to Scott Mc, Dylan K and Brian W for their time in coaching our teams and the Somerset Basketball Club for their assistance in providing this opportunity for our students.

Thanks so much Mr Strempell for letting us have your motorbike to sketch this afternoon for our lesson on proportion.
Ps: we really enjoyed seeing you ride up the stairs, do a mono, burnout and then stash your bike in our room for the afternoon!
