Junior Literacy Leaders
At the start of the year all the grade 5s and 6s were asked if they wanted to be Junior Literacy Leaders. They had to be prepared to give up some of their own time before school or during breaks to help students with Literacy. It was exciting when nearly half of these students were prepared to give up their time to help others. From there, we have started a few initiatives such as reading in the library before school and helping with sound awareness in the younger grades. Here are some thoughts from a few of our Literacy Leaders when asked what they liked about being a Junior Literacy Leader.
Gybson: I like reading to the kids and seeing them have a good time.
Ren: I like teaching little kids how to read. It’s good fun. They need to know how to read and I’m helping them with their future.
Bella: I like seeing what books they like and helping them.
Chloe: You get to read to people and they actually listen.
