Principal's Report
Communicating Learning Progress with Families (reports and parent teacher discussions)
Tasmanian Government Schools are beginning to implement changes to the way we communicate learning progress with families. These changes will be staggered over a three year period. You will be updated on your child’s learning progress through a range of communications across the year.
In 2022 this will include:
- A Progress Report that you received in Term 1 that focussed on application to learning.
- Mid and end of year reports where students will be assessed on the Australian Curriculum against a new 9-point scale with no teacher comments. This year parents will receive their child’s report at Parent Teacher so teachers can elaborate and discuss progress. Please note, Preps will not receive a report until end of year but all parents will be encouraged to attend a parent teacher discussion.
- Parent-teacher conversations will now increase to twice a year, occurring in 2nd and 3rd This year we are encouraging Grades 3-6 students to join their parents in these discussions. We will be using an online booking system for your convenience. Please see the link below or go onto our Schoolzine app. If you do not have access to these platforms, please phone the school office on 64351114 and our friendly office staff will make bookings for you.
- Please note this link will not be open to use until 6 June and will close on 15 June https://somersetps.schoolzineplus.com/view-session/5
- All parents/carers are encouraged to make an appointment and teachers will be following up and making contact to arrange a suitable time. Parent teacher discussions this term will take place between Monday 20th June to Thursday 23rd June, with Wednesday being a late night concluding at 7pm.
- In Term 2, Kindergarten children will receive a copy of their child’s Kinder Development Check plus an opportunity for a parent teacher discussion. In 4th Term you will receive a Celebration of Learning which highlights your child’s development and learning outcomes across the year based on the Early Years Learning Framework.
- Please remember, if you have concerns about your child’s progress throughout the year, you can always talk to your child’s teacher at any stage.
Thankyou
We have been very fortunate recently to receive donations towards our Breakfast Club. IGA Express (RED/JAFF) are kindly donating 10 loaves of bread per week and Nutrien Water have generously donated $400. These donations are very much appreciated and have allowed us to now offer Breakfast Club Monday-Thursday and Fruit Friday to end the week.
