In Grade 2A we have been learning about earth’s resources
Water was the first resource we focused on.
Facts we have learnt:
- 97% of water on earth is sea water
- 7% of the fresh water on earth is either trapped in glaciers or is under the ground
- Only 0.3% of earth’s water is accessible to us to use
Gina from Hydro Tasmania came to teach us about water catchments and how towns are reliant on water access to survive. She also talked to us about the water cycle.
We read the book ‘The Water Princess.’ It is a beautiful true story of how a young girl in an African village had to walk hours every day with her mother to collect clean water for her family to drink. We wrote letters to the main character Gie Gie.
