We have some amazing staff members working in our POD 3 Team. We think its time we introduced these amazing people to you.

Di Kalweit-Hayes

Mrs Kalweit-Hayes is a very experienced teacher who has had a long history working at Somerset Primary School. She is very creative and loves art. This year Mrs Kalweit-Hayes teaches our Grade 5A class and is looking forward to going on learning/inquiry journeys together.

FUN FACT: I love all sorts of fishing, fly and lure, salt and fresh water and I have a one-year-old little curly red headed grandson who I adore.

Sherrie Jaffray

Mrs Jaffray teaches our Grade 5B class. She loves making learning fun and is always looking at interesting ways of teaching. This year she is excited to watch her class grow as learners while also becoming a collaborative awesome team.

FUN FACT: I love the outdoors and walking, so you will often find me walking on the beach or bushwalking. I recently completed the overland track which is a 6 day hike.

Jessie Barker

Mrs Barker teaches Grade 6A, Tuesday to Friday. She also is responsible for the schools Student Representative Council and other Grade 6 Student Leadership initiatives. This year she looking forward to working with another great bunch of Grade 6 leaders and tackling challenges together, growing as learners.

FUN FACT: I like to cook in my spare time. My most favourite type of cooking is cakes and cupcakes, I enjoy decorating them for special occasions.

Ben Jones

Mr Jones is the POD 3 Leader this year. Along with his AST Leadership work and Numeracy Coach role for the school he also teaches Grade 6A on a Monday. This year Mr Jones is excited to be back teaching on class after a few years teaching Digital Technology. He loves to see students grow in confidence to take risks with their learning.

FUN FACT: I once coached an Australian U16 Youth Futsal team, to an international tournament in Brazil. Also… I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a UFO!!!

Claire Shenton

Mrs Shenton teaches our Grade 6B class From Wednesday to Friday. She is an experienced Primary School teacher who brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. This year she is looking forward to seeing the leadership qualities emerge from the start of the year to the end with all students.

FUN FACT: I am a member of the Cradle Coast Cloggers Group, and I love to clog each week!

Amy Gibbons

Mrs Gibbons returns to us this year from maternity leave. She teaches our Grade 6B class on Mondays and Tuesdays. She is a young enthusiastic teacher who builds strong relationships with all students. This year she is looking forward to watching the Grade 6’s develop as leaders and share in all the extra responsibilities with them.

FUN FACT: I’ve been to North Korea.

Jo Phillips

Jo is a very experienced teacher assistant. She has worked at Somerset Primary for a number of years. This year she is working in POD 3, specifically supporting our Grade 6 students. Jo always goes out of her way to ensure all students are engaged and valued in the classroom. She builds very strong relationships with the students and is valued for her patient, kind and motivating qualities.

FUN FACT: I have walked to the very bottom of the Grand Canyon. I also absolutely, positively hate pineapple :)

Carolyn Groom

Carolyn works as a teacher assistant in POD 3. She is a patient and supportive mentor to all children. Carolyn is known for her gentle and kind-hearted nature when working with all students.

FUN FACT: I love riding motorbikes.

Penny Carroll

Penny works as a teacher assistant in POD 3. This year she is supporting students in our Grade 5 classes. Nothing is ever too hard for Penny. She is resourceful, resilient and motivates and encourages students to always be positive about their learning.

FUN FACT: Penny loves to show the kids her gymnastics ability. Who doesn’t love a handstand?

Kathryn Hubbard

Kathryn has worked at Somerset Primary for many years. She is a very experienced teacher assistant, always going above and beyond to support our students with whatever they need to achieve. She is patient, encouraging and kind-hearted. An amazing asset to our POD 3 team.

Stacey White

Stacey has begun working in POD 3 this term specifically supporting some of our amazing Grade 6 students.

FUN FACT: Stacey loves pineapple on pizza :)
