Welcome Breakfast
This year we held a community breakfast to welcome and connect with all our SPS families. It was fantastic to see students proudly showing their special people around our school and in their classrooms. I know staff really appreciated the chance to meet and have casual conversations with parents and guardians.
Fun Run
Last Thursday during a quick assembly we launched our Parent Group Fundraiser for the term, which is a School Colour Fun Run. The event was met with big cheers and excitement from all our students and I think from their reactions, it will be one of the best days on our school calendar.
Each student should have brought home a sponsorship form and letter with information about the event and instructions on how to participate.
We do not want this fundraiser to put additional pressure on families, any small amount of sponsorship would be appreciated. If you would like your child to be involved but are unable to set up a profile, please contact the school office and we will see what we can organise.
To drum up the interest in the fundraiser we have set a small class challenge and prize. The challenge is to see which class has the most active profiles by this Friday 28th February. The winning class will get to ‘Paint the Principal’ at a mini assembly on Friday afternoon.
The Fun Run will take place on Thursday the 20th March and Kinder A parents will have the option of bringing their children along. More school based information will come out soon in regards to times, structure of day and what the children will need to bring.
There will be a quick parent group meeting on the 4th March at 2:30 in the staffroom to discuss organisation. Any interested volunteers are welcome.
Duty of Care
Just a reminder that Duty of Care does not commence until 8.45am.
We are noticing alot of children being dropped to school between 8.00 and 8.35am. Please note there is no active supervision during this time and classroom doors do not open until 8.45. We appreciate your support with this matter.
Athletics Carnival
Children in Kinder A have settled into their new school routine well, eagerly investigating the many delights of Kinder. Our focus for the first few weeks of term has been to support all children feel safe and secure and develop a sense of belonging in their new school environment. Children have adapted very well and are starting to become very familiar with their classroom, the adults and each other. Thank you to all our families for preparing and supporting your children for their first year of formal schooling.
Welcome!
to all our new Kinder
children and their families.
We have been busy settling in to school life. Learning ...
- to say goodbye to our mums and dads for the whole day.
- remembering and following our class routines and rules.
- to find someone to play with.
- the names of the children in our class.
- to wear socks and shoes for the whole day, and a hat when we go outside.
- to know our teachers and feel safe with them.
- to ask questions and answer questions all by ourselves.
- what the music and bells mean.
- sit on the mat with our legs crossed and be ready for listening and learning.
- to open our lunchboxes and be responsible for our belongings by always putting them in our lockers.
- to wait our turn, and share the equipment.
- to use walking feet inside and loud voices outside.. and so much more !
It’s an exhausting time beginning school when everything is so new and different. The children have been remarkably adaptive and learning very fast. We should all be very proud of them. Great start Kinders!
You have already recieved an updated permission and consent form or Validation form. It would be greatly appreciated if they could be returned asap. We have created a video to help you with completing this form as it is quite complex. Alternatively you can call into the office and we will help you complete it. If you are unable to locate your form, copies are available from the office.
Somerset Primary is expecting the mobile dentist team to visit our school. We were expecting them at our school in the first weeks of March. Unfortunately the visit is delayed due to their scheduling requirements. We'll keep you updated as soon as we are aware of the new dates. Meanwhile, keep brushing well!
As part of Somerset Primary’s commitment to reducing single use packaging, our canteen will no longer have sauce sachets for purchase. Sauce will still be available, please add sauce to your order if required and it will be added directly onto your child’s lunch at no additional cost.
